Beginner learning bagpipes with City of Leeds Pipe Band in Leeds

Free beginner bagpipe lessons

Our friendly band members will guide you through the basics on a practice chanter before you move on to the bagpipes. Complete beginners are welcome.

We meet on Mondays from 19:00 to 21:00 at Victory Hall in Thorner, Leeds. Get in touch to arrange a taster session and meet the band.

Practice chanters and equipment

We can lend you a practice chanter for your first couple of weeks, so you can try playing while you arrange to buy your own chanter and tutor book. You do not need to buy bagpipes until you are proficient on the practice chanter.

Interested in learning drums?

We also welcome beginners who would like to learn Scottish snare, tenor, or bass drumming. Get in touch and we can talk about getting started.

Learn with a friendly band

As your skills develop, you can become part of a friendly volunteer band and perform at events across Yorkshire. Band uniform is provided when you are ready to play with the band.
