Learn Bagpipes Or Drums
City of Leeds Pipe Band welcomes complete beginners, returning players and experienced pipers and drummers. We offer free tuition and a friendly route into playing with the band.
Bagpipers
Learn to play the Great Highland Bagpipes with support from experienced members of the band. Beginners can start with the practice chanter before progressing to the pipes. We recommend beginners purchase a standard sized practice chanter and the Highland Bagpipe Tutor book 1.
We welcome pipers of all experience levels, including people returning to playing after a break. You can develop your technique, build confidence, and play as part of a band.
Contact us about joiningDrummers
Learn Scottish-style drumming and become part of the band’s drum corps. Tuition can cover snare, tenor, and bass drumming as your skills develop.
Whether you are new to drumming or already have experience, our members can help you learn the fundamentals, improve your playing, and enjoy performing with the band.
Contact us about joiningEquipment and uniform
We can advise you on what equipment you need to get started, and band uniform is provided once you are ready to play with the band.
Why join the band
As well as learning an instrument, you will be part of a friendly band that performs at events across Yorkshire. The band is made up of volunteers of mixed ages and backgrounds, and we are always pleased to welcome new members.
